Welcome to Madeline’s at Jells
How did Madeline’s get its name?
Madeline & Alexander Scott (yes husband and wife) are regarded as the first 'owners' of Jells Park. They purchased a lease from the early settler Thomas Napier in 1839. The original parcel of land it is thought extended from what is now High St Road to Wellington Road. Unfortunately Alexander (hence the Alexander Room, our function room) died before he could take possession of the land but Madeline and her two daughters did. They originally called the property "Bushy Park".
Interested in more of the history? See the Album on Madeline Scott at the rear of Madeline’s. (Thank you to Judy Hopkins for all her hard work) More of the History of Jells Park can be read in a book at the rear of the restaurant.
